What is email masking?
A masked email is a permanent alias that forwards to your real mailbox. You hand out the mask instead of your own address, so the shop, app or newsletter never sees where the mail actually lands, and you can switch that one alias off without changing your real email anywhere.
A masked alias or a temporary inbox, which do I want?
A temporary inbox is a throwaway you use once and let expire. A mask is one you keep: a lasting address you control, forward to your real inbox, and pause if it leaks. Use a temp inbox for a one-off signup, a mask for anything you want to keep receiving.
Can I reply from a mask?
A mask receives and forwards. We never send from it on your behalf, so a reply goes from your real mailbox. If you need the address hidden in both directions, use the mask for one-way mail like receipts, alerts and newsletters.
What happens when I switch a mask off?
Mail to that alias stops being forwarded and is refused at the door. Your real address and every other mask keep working. If a shop leaks or sells the address, blocking that one mask ends the spam without touching anything else.
How is this different from Apple Hide My Email?
The idea is the same, a forwarding alias that guards your real address, but this needs no Apple account and no device, works in any browser, and lets you point your own domain at it. Your real address is never shown, on any page or in any API response.
